Boruch Dayan Ha'Emet

I am sad to announce that Horav Hagaon Rav Henoch Leibowitz, zecher tzaddik l'vrocha, was niftar today.

I can't think of anything else to say, but I"ll go cry for now.

Sarah Rutti,

P.S. We've lost a gadul, a link to the past.

Thank you my dear. Thanks for your facebook email. That's really considerate of you.

May apologies on the following that needs to be clarified:
niftar = died
gadul = ~ sage
zecher tzaddik l'vrocha = his memory should be blessed
and
baruch dayan ha'emet = bless the truthful (fair) judge.

Those are all approximations.

I loved Rav Lebowitz- I used to be hooked to the books which were based on his teachings, and then in 11th grade I realized he was in the same camp as me. I used to see him passing my window every morning going to daven at what was for me way too early. On Shobbos he would give 'shmuzen' for the chofetz chayim students and whoever else wanted to listen. I knew he was coming from a different reality.

I too mourned his passing, but I think it's also important to note how long he lived. We see from his longevity, and the longevity of others like him (Rav Shach and Rabbi Avigdor Miller for example) that 1. Sitting over a gemara all day is not necessarily that unhealthy, nor does it shorten ones lifespan, and 2. if you walk in G-d's ways, He rewards you in this world.

A good week to you.
